The Eisenhower dollar was a one-dollar coin issued by the United States mint from 1971 to 1978; it was the first coin dollar coin issued by the Mint since the since 1935 when the Peace Dollar Series ended. This coin depicts President Eisenhower on the obverse, and  on the reverse, an image honoring the Apollo moon landing in 1969. Both sides were designed by Frank Gasparro. The back or reverse side is based on the Apollo 11 mission patch which was designed by astronaut Michael Collins. The versions of this coin that were meant for circulation, however, all the Ike dollars on our site were the special mint issue version that have 40% silver content.
